![]() It is therefore very important for all of us, not only writers, to honour our freedom, defend writers like brave Salman and exercise our privilege of freethinking and use it judiciously. Books live in a form of the perpetual present.Īre there topics that you self-censor and avoid including in your books? Do you think you (or other authors) will be more cautious/afraid after Salman Rushdie’s attack? Carole But I’m sometimes asked about fiction I wrote 50 years ago and it’s cheering to know that for readers there is no time dimension. Lovecraft pastiche ""A Study in Emerald,"" and the noirish ""Keepsakes and Treasures."" There are enough terrific stories in the book to make it a must-have for Gaiman fans, but dedicated readers may want to choose the hardcopy edition instead, so as to more easily skip the dross. The poems often work on paper, but when read aloud many feel like disjointed, nonsensical stories. However, in the more experimental pieces in the collection, this practice backfires and may leave listeners reaching for the fast-forward button. Gaiman performs admirably as narrator for the most part, changing his style from story to story to better suit the tone of each. Laffertyesque ""Sunbird.""
